SkyContour – Support
SkyContour records your local horizon with the phone camera and exports it as a N.I.N.A. horizon file (.hrz) and a Stellarium landscape (.zip).
Getting help
Report a problem or ask a question by opening an issue at
github.com/sagifer/appdocuments/issues.
Please mention your phone model, the iOS or Android version and the app version.
Tips for a good survey
- Calibrate the field of view once (Settings › Calibrate with the camera): aim at distant detail and turn the phone slowly sideways. Without it, an average value is assumed.
- Keep away from metal. Cars, railings and metal tripod heads disturb the compass; if the compass looks unsure, move the phone in a figure-eight.
- Follow the dot. Turn until the dot sits in the circle and hold still; with Auto on, frames are taken by themselves. If trees or roofs reach the top of the frame, add a higher shot.
- Survey in daylight or at dusk. A bright sky against dark ground gives the cleanest edge. On the Review screen, fix the edge with Paint sky / Paint ground.
- Check north. Magnetic declination is not applied yet: if the profile looks rotated, correct it with North offset on the Review screen. It applies to both the .hrz and the panorama.
Using the files
- N.I.N.A.: in Options › General › Astrometry › Custom Horizon, select the exported
.hrz file.
- Stellarium: Sky and viewing options (F4) › Landscape › Add/remove landscapes › Install a new landscape from .zip, then select the exported zip.
Sample file
backyard-pier.hrz (also as backyard-pier.txt): an example N.I.N.A. horizon. Download it to Files, then use Import existing .hrz on the Sites screen to try the Review and Export screens without a survey.
